If x-rays and a clinical exam confirm that the cause is soft tissue only, it can be reversed with good home care – flossing, brushing, and a good professional cleaning. If the cause is periodontitis – bone loss underneath the gum tissue – that has to be treated with the laser or other modalities. Depending on the severity, laser treatment might be able to reverse or at least stabilize the situation and regenerate new bone. We can also use the laser at an earlier stage to prevent the disease from going into an advanced stage.
