  • Should I have an implant for upper left molar that has a 6 year old failed root canal, and probably a cracked root?

Q: I read about failures on upper molars and about issues not doing an implant. There is a lower molar (this top molar is the last one on top on the left) under this one. I’m a 64 year old female with osteoporosis, so not sure about bone loss. I just don’t know what to do. I realize chewing could be an issue, but also read about other teeth shifting without an implant. Consultation is soon, what to do and what questions to ask? And no insurance to cover this.

A: If you have adequate bone and have the proper protocol following the extraction of a maxillary molar, all should be good. With the use of a proper laser, bone graft, and osteotome sinus augmentation, this should do the trick in this area of your mouth.
