Q: Socket tactically indicates more mass, peripheral towards the check + up towards joint. This intentional for the success of implant? Will it consolidate and revert to natural size or is the graft one-to-one? Inflamed from the trauma? What are goal? The graft is never custom to be symmetrical, return to same outline as before extraction, or is it intentional to reduce rejection with more “footprint” in vacant socket? More innately inquisitive, over precise by experience than really concerned.
A: We routinely use freeze dried bone for our extraction sockets with the use of an ND/YAG laser to prepare the socket for rapid healing. The area is usually ready for a dental implant in 45-90 days. The bone graft serves as a scaffold for new bone growth and prevents collapse of the socket.
