Can a Tooth Which Had Root Canal Long Ago Still Cause Pain from a Cavity?

Q: I had root canal long ago in a tooth. Just had an implant done next to that tooth. The root canal-ed tooth has a cavity. Could I feel pain from this tooth though there is no root, or is the pain caused by the recent implant?

A: Normally, we would need an x ray and clinical exam to determine a diagnosis. However, the pain can be from the root canal tooth (with more decay?) or the implant.

The Periodontist who placed the implant should be able to diagnose this issue for you.
