Bloody tissue after deep cleaning

Q: I just had a deep cleaning procedure done yesterday. Bloody tissue started coming out though my gums, between my teeth. This happened about eight hours after the procedure. It mostly came out through my front left teeth. When I woke up this morning, I found a fairly large bloody tissue lodged between my bottom front teeth. Is this normal?

A: This is not the usual course of events. Yes…sometimes we see a little bleeding and soreness. However, if you have large blood clots with granulation material, then I would advise you check in with your periodontist/ dentist who did this procedure for you. Do you have any bleeding issues? Are you taking any medications? Diabetic? Smoker? Please follow up with your dental practitioner a.s.a.p.
