Q: I have been smoking for about five years now on and off. About four days ago, I started using smokeless tobacco (the cans of tobacco where you take a pinch and put in under your lower lip). If I quit, will my mouth be able to recover from any possible damage that was caused over time (with the help of brushing and mouthwash of course).

A: I am sorry to be blunt, but you need to quit all tobacco products as soon as possible. If you want to avoid oral cancer, pre-cancerous changes, and many other possible negative outcomes, quit.
