Dental deep pocket treatment?

Q: My dentist told me that I have a deep pocket between two molars. He prescribed antibiotics and Peridex 3 times a day, and to keep the pocket clean by flossing regularly throughout the day. Can a deep pocket can be reversed, and with what forms of treatment?

A: Generally, we treat deep pockets with a laser protocol. If the pocket is very deep, you need to address the problem with a predictable procedure to prevent further bone loss and the possibility of tooth loss. How did your x ray look? What kind of bone defect was present? Did you see a Periodontist? All these issues are dealt with when we see patients for a consultation and diagnosis in our office.
